Miguel Alonso is a life long resident of the 37th Council District. He was born on October 18th 1968, in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Lydia and Miguel Alonso. He has lived his entire life in the East New York and Bushwick section of Brooklyn. Miguel is the second oldest of four children.

Being a product of the community, Miguel also attended Lyndon Baines Johnson Elementary School and Halsey Middle School 296 in district 32. This has made him understand the importance of maintaining a basic quality education for the residents of Bushwick and East New York. This led Miguel into the classroom where he taught Social Studies at Halsey Middle School 296. He taught there from 1989-1997. While teaching, Miguel’s concern for the underprivileged in his community led him to organize numerous drives to collect food, clothing and other goods to assist those in need.

The time has come for our community to be progressive and move towards the 21st century with true leadership that will make a difference. If I get elected, I will work together with community residents, school administrators and community leaders to make our community a viable place to raise our families. Issues that we will address working cooperatively will be economic development, education, housing, senior citizens and crime. I will be the voice of the unheard and bring pride, hope and respect to our community. For a number of years, we have been getting the crumbs; now the time has come for us to take the whole cake. Together we can and I will lead our community on the road to prosperity by putting back the funds into the community.
