Some highlights: New Legislation: Created: Anti-graffiti - Outlaws sale of etching acid to minors; Domestic workers - Sets written standards for workers and employers; City publications - Makes them available electronically at Municipal Library and on the web; Buy New York - Opens procurement process to notify software companies of contracts. Sponsored: A living wage for workers under city contracts; Providing students on public assistance a chance to attend CUNY; Domestic partner benefits and recognition of civil unions; Enrollment in public health insurance; emergency contraception; Procurement of energy efficient products; Smoke-free restaurants and bars. Introduced: To enhance enforcement of human rights; To improve mechanism for enforcing housing codes. Co-sponsored pending bill: Council consent of appointments to Rent Guidelines Board. Policy Initiatives: Roundtable on cyber security of the City’s databases and Internet; E-procurement report to save tax dollars; Public-private collaboration to employ local residents at Columbus Centre; Science teacher certification program with museums and educational institutions.
