My name is Roberto Lizardo. I am a parent and fellow resident. For over 18 years I have been working in our communities, tackling the many problems afflicting us. I am an independent voice in a political environment plagued with patronage and self-promoting interests.
I seek the office of the 10th Councilmanic District (Washington Heights, Inwood, and Marble Hill) to give people a genuine voice in the City Council. We need a clear agenda to face the challenges ahead. We know the problems. Let’s work together to solve them! My political platform includes:
EDUCATION: Fight against Bloomberg’s budget cuts affecting education. More funds for after-school programs and more schools to reduce overcrowding. Equitable distribution of resources brought to our district. A comprehensive inclusion of parents in the education process.
HOUSING: Force landlords to remove housing code violations. More housing inspectors to report code violations and more HPD lawyers to sue housing code violators. Decent and affordable housing for low-income people. Protection of the Rent Stabilization Laws that regulate rent increases.
YOUTH: Creation of a vocational center to train youngsters. More resources for youth job programs. More funds for community agencies serving the youth. Renovation of sport facilities in the parks for youngsters and children to play safely and out of the streets.
SAFETY: Police action against landlords who allow illegal activities in their buildings. More police officers assigned to our precincts and more police patrol in our communities. Build better relationships between the community and the police to strengthen mutual respect and cooperation.
My candidacy seeks to bring real political power to our communities.
