There’s something wrong with a system where we know in advance who’s going to win the election.
I’m running to give a voice to the homeless, the downtrodden and the unemployed.
Taxation without representation has been in effect in Richmond County. I would work to include all voters in the democratic process.
I would use my 30 years as a community activist and clergyman to break down barriers that separate us and build an open society regardless of race, creed, religion or political or social affiliation.
We must address the issues of: unemployment, youth and senior citizen program cutbacks, the closing of hospitals and clinics, drugs, crime, and racial profiling.
Nothing will change however without reform of the political process which is currently skewed in favor of the establishment political parties. That’s why I favor non-partisan elections. Most major cities around the country elect their mayors and city councils in this fashion.
Too many citizens have been excluded from the process which is un-American. We must even the playing field. More than 95% of incumbents are re-elected, and many candidates don’t even bother to run, since without the support of party bosses, they have no chance.
If you would like to use your vote to make a statement, and not just waste it, please consider voting for an experienced community activist, not a politician. And just as importantly, please vote in favor of non-partisan elections in the November referendum. Those two votes will make the system fairer, more inclusive and more democratic for years to come.
