1. What is the most important issue in Council District 9 you would address if elected?

Affordable Housing – We need to preserve affordable housing. The housing crunch shows no sign of easing up and the little new construction occurring in the City takes advantage of some government subsidy or exemption. If the developers gets a break, the savings should be passed on to current community residents.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Education – the State continues to shortchange our children. Classrooms are overcrowded, students fail to meet academic standards, schools are in disarray, and good teachers are leaving the system. I support the 17-seat initiative to reduce class size allowing teachers to take a hands-on approach to education; Employment – an educated workforce is vitally important to our economic viability. The City must allocate more resources to job training or businesses will choose to relocate where they can find a well-prepared workforce; Healthcare – District 9 needs optimum access to affordable healthcare. I support measures enabling the Health and Hospital Corporation to provide quality healthcare to uninsured patients regardless of their ability to pay.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

My experience in the political arena also in the civic, housing and business world sets me apart. Through my professional life I’ve helped to rehabilitate housing so working families can afford homes. My sister and I started a scholarship because we believe in the importance of a good education. I’ve actively worked on grassroots activities to ensure our community has strong representation in all levels of government. I believe in empowerment, education and community involvement. If you honor me with your trust, I’m ready to take up the fight to ensure our neighborhoods get their fair share.
