20th City Council District

1. What is the most important issue in Council District 20 you would address if elected?

Job creation and workforce development must be our top priority. As the director of a nonprofit organization that offers job training, English language improvement and skills development, I know what it takes to help workers succeed. As a small businessman, I know how to manage a budget, control spending and watch the bottom line. On the City Council, I will work to expand job training and placement programs in growing areas like health care, housing, and technology, and I will make sure that local businesses are able to compete. This is how we will get our economy back on track and create new jobs and opportunities.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

We have a diverse community with families from around the world, but we are united in our need for good schools for our children, care for our elders, and services to keep our neighborhoods safe, clean, and free of congestion and overdevelopment. I've spent two decades working directly with people here to improve our quality of life, and I will continue that fight on the City Council. We must fund our schools, protect and expand assistance for seniors, improve transportation, reduce traffic congestion, promote smart growth, and expand affordable housing.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

We are facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We need a city councilmember with the knowledge and experience to take on that challenge and stand up for the needs of working people. For over 20 years, I have dedicated myself to serving the community, becoming Executive Director of an effective non-profit organization and building a successful business from the ground up. I have worked with thousands of local families who want to buy a home, find a job, and create a better life for their children. I will bring their voices, and yours, to the City Council. I will be a councilmember for all of us.
