1. What is the most important issue in Council District 31 you would address if elected?
HOME FORECLOSURES, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT, FAILING AND OVERCROWDED SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO PLAGUE THE DISTRICT. THERE IS A NEED FOR ACTIVE GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE IN SPURRING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND JOB CREATION. TUTORIAL AND REMEDIATION SERVICES ARE DIRELY NEEDED AS WELL AS VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND GED SERVICES FOR OUR YOUNG ADULTS.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
TRANSPORTATION TO MANHATTAN OR OTHER PARTS OF THE BOROUGH REMAINS DIFFICULT ON A GOOD DAY. THE DISTRICT IS MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED. THE DISTRICT'S INFRASTRUCTURE HAS BEEN NEGLECTED FOR YEARS. FLOODING, POOR DRAINAGE AND A HIGH LEVEL OF GROUND WATER REMAIN A MAJOR PROBLEM. THERE IS A NEED TO IMPROVE AND INCREASE THE AVAILABILITY OF YOUTH SERVICES, PARTICULARLY YOUTH HEALTH CARE. TOUGHER CODE ENFORCEMENT OF BUILDINGS TO ADDRESS ILLEGAL CONVERSIONS WORKING WITHOUT PERMITS AND WORKING ON WEEKENDS IS AN ISSUE AND STEPPED-UP ENFORCEMENT OF CODE AND ZONING VIOLATIONS ARE NEEDED. SENIORS COMPRISE A LARGE SEGMENT OF OUR POPULATION. PROGRAMS MUST BE DEVELOPED TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.
