1. What is the most important issue in Council District 33 you would address if elected?

Our district is plagued with overdevelopment straining fire, transit and school infrastructures to the breaking point. Developers who play by a different set of rules view our neighborhoods as one large cashbox. I will forcefully advocate for greater community control of development, strengthen rent protection, and increase affordable housing by ending subsidies for luxury construction. Our City must provide housing not just for the rich but for those who sustain us; teachers, nurses, firemen, artists and others trying to hang on while also protecting our cherished neighborhoods.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

To thrive, NYC must be transformed into a sustainable, greener city less reliant on its financial sector and less dependent on fossil fuels. I will champion those efforts. I will fight for new high tech, and green tech jobs and oppose the conversion of manufacturing zones into luxury housing. I will help NYC lay the groundwork to move from a polluting truck based economy to one based more on rail and shipping and fight to expand our ports to create jobs.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

Schools, hospitals & transit funds get cut but $2 billion goes to Atlantic Yards. The Council is mired in a slush fund culture and ethical abuses. These failures need a strong reformer. I have challenged entrenched incumbents and political bosses and won victories for our community. My record in affordable housing, disabilities, economic development and the environment has changed 1000's lives during 30 years of service, one life at a time. I will put the breadth of my experience to work for children, seniors and working families and be a truly independent reformer of our failed City Council.
