1. What is the most important issue in Council District 33 you would address if elected?
Issues related to development tie all of the neighborhoods of the 33rd District together.
I have proposed that the City's planning process be amended to require input on any major project from every City department, and to create an expanded role for the community.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
At City Hall, reform would be my top priority. I have fought for serious and lasting change to the way our City is run for years, co-founding the City Council's first committee on reform, improving the City's campaign finance law, and advocating for systemic changes to the way the City does business.
I will also fight hard to create an economy for everyone, where new businesses and independent workers are helped by tax breaks and job training; to increase our stock of affordable housing by requiring large developments to include affordable units; and to improve the City's schools by focusing on instruction, and not unnecessary testing.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
For a Council member to be effective, it is necessary that they understand the complexities of the Council and have the experience to navigate local government. I worked in the Council for nearly five years writing legislation, using the land use process to turn back bad development, and getting the most out of the budget for the constituents of the 33rd District.
Once elected to the Council, I will hit the ground running, and use my government know-how to improve the way our City government works.
