1. What is the most important issue in Council District 39 you would address if elected?
We must bring jobs back to Brooklyn. As a former small business owner and head of two small business organizations, I understand what it takes to help our mom and pop businesses stay afloat. I am proposing a new property tax incentive that will encourage building owners to sell their storefront space as retail condos so more local businesses can stay in the community.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Environment - Let's make the Gowanus area the city's first "green district." I support Superfund designation for the Gowanus Canal.
Transportation and Parking - I am proposing a residential parking permit plan that will raise enough revenue so we can reinvest it back into the community for new free shuttle buses for every neighborhood.
Public Education - I am proposing a new type of school based on the cooperative model in which parents would be encouraged to volunteer a few hours every month in their child's school, thereby increasing parental participation.
Government Reform - The City Council should become a full time position so representatives can better serve their constituents. I plan to have a mobile office so that I can visit different neighborhoods each week.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have the widest background and experience and the best ideas for our neighborhoods and for Brooklyn. Whether it's my plan to stabilize our local small businesses, offer new alternative transportation options, create a new educational model for our children or have a mobile office that visits each neighborhood, I have the most creative solutions for the challenges that we currently face.
