1. What is the most important issue in the city you would address if elected?

Much more needs to be done for the middle class in New York City, and those struggling to reach it. Working people are finding it harder to get by. With the price of food and utilities rising and rents going up, the middle class is getting squeezed out. This is not just another issue for me - it's about making sure there's a place in this city for middle class families like mine. I'll be a Public Advocate who does more than pay lip service to working New Yorkers. I have a proven record of improving schools, fighting for affordable housing, and promoting jobs that pay real wages.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Government should work for people, not against them. For example, 200,000 children in our city are eligible for free health care, but are not getting it because no one in government is reaching out. As Public Advocate, I will cut down on bureaucracy and work with city schools and hospitals to make sure children get the health care they need. I'll continue to shine a light on government waste and mismanagement, just as I've done as Chair of the Investigations Committee on the City Council.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

We need someone at City Hall who will do more than just talk. We need someone who will listen, roll up their sleeves and get to work finding solutions to the problems regular New Yorkers face. I have a record of listening to people's problems and then getting things done - from cutting the food stamp bureaucracy that kept hungry New Yorkers from receiving help, to getting teachers reimbursed when they were paying out of their own pockets for school supplies, to keeping registered sex offenders out of public housing. If you elect me as your next Public Advocate, I will wake up every day and go to work for the hard-working New Yorkers who too often feel invisible to City Hall.
