1. What is the most important issue in Council District 28 you would address if elected?
Unemployment, unfair wages and lack of economic development. We need to bring better jobs with paying wages to our community, which has been severely hurt by rising unemployment and foreclosures. I will fight for the people of this district, and bring resources and stimulate economic growth, working in partnership with both the public and private sectors.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
EDUCATION: We must ensure that our kids get the education to complete better in the global economy and provide more certified teachers, textbooks, computers, after school programs and smaller class sizes. AFFORDABLE HOUSING: We must save our homes from foreclosures and provide affordable housing for all. HEALTH CARE must be affordable and accessible to all, and we must prevent any other area hospitals from closing like Mary Immaculate did. SENIOR CITIZENS must receive property tax and other exemptions and free nutritious meals, transportation and services. POLICE RELATIONS among our diverse groups must be improved throughout the district.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am an independent and respected voice for working families, small businesses and the most vulnerable in our society. I will fight corruption and special interests. I have a long track record of helping diverse groups across the district, from Rochdale Village to Jamaica commercial center to Aqueduct Development-to every corner of the district. I have built strategic alliances with Federal, State and City leaders, and with commercial and business entities, and am best positioned to bring resources to our district.
