1. What is the most important issue in Council District 10 you would address if elected?
District 10 needs better schools and I will support the establishment of charter schools to provide choice to parents and students. I will also encourage greater economic development for our district.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Our City Council is in desperate need for reform. Waste, fraud and corruption should not be rewarded with four more years at City Hall. In the past six years more than 17 million dollars of tax payer money made its way into a secret bank account controlled by our current city officials. So far the scandal at City Hall has uncovered grants that were given to phantom organizations, bogus bookkeeping that is the subject of probes and federal indictments of city officials. To add insult to injury the City Council is also using taxpayer money to hire high priced attorneys to represent them in the ongoing slush fund probe. Recently, 29 City Council members, including Miguel Martinez from District 10, voted to overturn two voter referendums by New Yorkers, who have consistently rejected the extension of term limits. New Yorkers deserve better representation from their elected officials. I will insist upon honesty from our elected officials and tighter fiscal control and accountability for programs funded with tax payer money.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
My background as an attorney, businessman and native New Yorker has given me a broad understanding of the needs of New Yorkers. My law practice has given me the opportunity to represent individuals in a wide ranging variety of legal matters including immigration, landlord and tenant, bankruptcy and law suits involving racial and sexual discrimination. As a political outsider, who is not a part of the current democratic machine, I can honestly represent my constituents in District 10 and bring real reform to City Hall.
