Occupational background: Manny has more than 17 years experience with the New York City Department of Education. After many years teaching at Inwood IS 52, he is now a Dean, working with students, parents and staff to ensure that all students receive the best education possible

Educational background: Manny attended SUNY at New Paltz where he graduated with a degree in Political Science and Mathematics. He then attended Mercy College where he received his masters degree in Learning Technology

Organizational affiliations: Chair of Community Board 12; Member or UMEZ; He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Edward McFadden Scholarship fund, and is a Judicial Delegate

Prior public experience: Since January 1, 2007, Manny has been the Chairman of Community Board 12 & has served 3 consecutive terms as Chair. He is also a Judicial Delegate

1. What is the most important issue in Council District 10 you would address if elected?

Create & support vocational schools where young adults can receive training in various trades. This would provide employment opportunities to our young adults.

 

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Provide funding for roadway & street reconstruction projects in Northern Manhattan & for the modernization of train stations throughout the district.

Change legislation to give the council final confirmation to make rent increases fair & equitable.

Advocate for the reestablishment of community school districts so that parents & district supervisors are part of the DOE decision making process.

Provide Northern Manhattan with 75 million dollars in economic development projects through business improvement initiatives increasing business, support tourism to northern Manhattan attractions, motivate and support entrepreneurs, support business building skills, develop an educated workforce through training & education and provide small business loans.

 

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

As a Community Board 12 Chair that has served 3 consecutive terms, Manny is very familiar with our community and its needs.
